CUGB
Undergraduate Major:Geological Engineering

1. Major Introduction

The specialty of Geological Engineering is characterized by design and construction in three fields: geotechnical drilling and excavation, engineering geology and prospecting, and foundation engineering. It is aimed at new resource exploration and exploitation, new techniques in geological engineering, geological disaster protection and disposal. The university adopts the cultivating mode of “deep foundation, wide knowledge, individuality development”. In addition, theoretical teaching and engineering practice are both required and the students are also need to own the abilities of self-learning, creativity and good society adaptation. After graduation, the students will have abilities in design, management, construction organization or scientific research work in the areas of resource prospecting, construction in cities and towns, civil engineering, water conservancy engineering, energy exploitation engineering, traffic engineering, tunneling, slope engineering, etc.

2. Academic Objectives

The aim of the specialty is to cultivate advanced geological engineering persons who are well developed in knowledge, ability and quality. They must systematically grasp the basic theories, methods and skills in geotechnical drilling and excavation engineering, engineering geology, foundation engineering, accept relevant engineering training, have good ability in society adaptation. After graduation, the students can undertake prospecting, design, construction, management, supervision works of engineering geological surveys, protection of geological disaster, protection of geological environment, geological engineering, resource prospecting and excavation.

3. Academic Requirements

The academic requirements of the specialty have four aspects. Firstly, the undergraduates must firmly grasp some basic knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, a foreign language and computers. Secondly, they must systematically study the basic theory and knowledge of geology, engineering mechanics, geotechnical drilling and excavation engineering, engineering geology, foundation engineering, and have been trained in the practice. Thirdly, they must have abilities in engineering prospecting, design and construction in geological engineering, prevention and protection of geological disaster, management in engineering techniques, resource exploration, technologies in exploitation and geotechnical drilling and excavation, and relevant equipment research abilities. In the end, they must also have good abilities in self-learning, be creative in scientific research and development and society adaptation.

4. Length of Schooling and Degree

The length of schooling is four years of full-time study. Students will be awarded the Bachelor Degree of Engineering when they have completed the required minimum credits and have met all other requirements.
