CUGB
Undergraduate Major:Civil Engineering

1. Major Introduction

Civil Engineering is the general name that stands for the science and technology involving construction of various types of engineering facilities. Training for the civil engineering specialty is to make students master the basic theory and knowledge of civil engineering disciplines, engage in the planning, design, construction, management and research work in areas of building construction, underground construction (including mine construction), roads, tunnels, bridge construction, hydropower, ports and offshore structures and facilities, water supply and drainage construction and ground handling. The development directions of the civil engineering specialty in our university include geotechnical and underground engineering and construction engineering, which are distinctly characterized by design, construction and research of engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and underground construction engineering.

2. Academic Objectives

The specialty aims to foster future-oriented high-level professionals with a solid theoretical foundation, broad expertise, strong engineering practice, innovation ability and international perspective, who meet the need of socialist modernization and are all-around developed in aspects of morality, intelligence and physicality. Mastering the basic principles and knowledge of civil engineering disciplines, the undergraduates are required to be competent for the relevant profession of technology and management in civil engineering such as housing construction, underground construction, roads, bridges, tunnels, mines, water conservancy and so on.

3. Academic Requirements

The undergraduates of the civil engineering specialty mainly study the basic theory and knowledge of mechanics, structures, construction, project management and economics etc. They are required to receive basic training in mechanical analysis, engineering geology, structural design, construction technology and project management, text and drawing expression, etc; and to master basic skills in technical or management work in civil project investigation, design, construction, management, education, investment and development, finance and insurance sectors.

4. Length of Schooling and Degree

The length of schooling is four years of full-time study. Students will be awarded the Bachelor Degree of Engineering when they have completed the required minimum credits and have met all other requirements.
